Description
Butterfly valve is a valve that utilizes a circular disc, or “butterfly” disc, to control the flow of a fluid. It is often used in applications that require fast, frequent operation. The butterfly disc is held in place by a stem attached to a rod, which is connected to an actuator on the outside of the valve. When the actuator is turned, the stem and rod move the butterfly disc in a rotational manner, opening or closing the valve. The valve is designed to give a tight shut-off, meaning that it can be used to completely stop the flow of the fluid. Butterfly valves also offer superior flow characteristics, and are suitable for a variety of applications including gas, oil, steam, and water.
